New Year’s Resolutions by Jay Conner

What do you think about New Year’s Resolutions? Do you no longer make New Year’s Resolutions because of your past year’s failures to stick with them?

Did you know that, according to Business Insider Magazine, over 80% of New Year’s Resolutions Fail by February!

How would you like a Quick, Easy and Effective Process that almost guarantees you to Experience that which Inspires You the Most?

FIRST: Don’t think about the process as NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS!

WHY? Because “past year reviews” (PYR’s) are always more informed, valuable, and actionable than half-hearted broad resolutions.

This process takes 30-60 minutes and here’s how to do it step-by-step:

Step 1: Get a notepad and create two columns: POSITIVE and NEGATIVE. (a mentor of mine years ago taught me to “Cut the gab and get on the pad!”)

Step 2: Go through your 2018 calendar looking at every week. For each week, write down on your pad any people, activities, or commitments that triggered peak positive or negative emotions. Write them in their respective columns.

Step 3: Once you’ve gone through the year, look at your notepad columns and ask yourself, “What 20% of each column produced the most reliable or powerful peaks?” (positive and negative columns)

Step 4: Highlight the 20% that you have identified in each column.

Step 5: Now Take your Highlighted “positive 20%” and schedule MORE OF THEM in 2019. (If you’ve been around me much, you’ve heard my mantra: “Successes are Scheduled!”) Get them on the calendar now! Book things with friends and prepay for activities/events/commitments that you know work and inspire you! It’s not real until it’s in the calendar. AND: Schedule any other activities that you know from previous years proved to inspire you!

Step 6: Now Take Note of your Highlighted “negative 20%! “These are the people, activities, commitments, and things that you KNOW make you miserable! So, Do NOT allow them on your calendar out of obligation, guilt, or other nonsense.

Step 7: On a Clean sheet of paper Create a New List titled: “My NOT-TO-DO LIST” and write down these top 20% Drainers!

Step 8: Place this list somewhere you can see it each morning for the first 90 Days of 2019.

Remember! It’s not enough to remove the negative. That creates a void. Get the positive and inspiring things on your calendar NOW to keep them from getting replaced by the noise that will otherwise fill your days with unproductive and unfulfilling stuff.
